I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). I have been in the nutrition world, professionally, for 5 years.
Nutrition has a special place in my heart and has impacted me on a personal level as a female athlete. From a young age, I committed to understanding the power of nutrition on health, longevity, and performance.
A little about my academic background...because you do want to be sure you are receiving your information from qualified resources in this field! I received by Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics with minors in gerontology and sports nutrition from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 2015. I completed my national board exam to become a RD/RDN in 2016. During my time as a clinical dietitian, I went on to get my Masters of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance from Logan University in 2019.
As of August 2022, I received my level 1certification as metabolic efficient training specialist (METS I). Metabolic efficiency is a process of improving the body's ability to utilize energy stores more efficiently through nutrition and exercise. You can learn more about this here.
In my free time, I love spending time with my boyfriend and biggest life supporter, Corey, and our dog, Nala. I am a runner at heart and recently took up triathlon, which I have developed a deep passion for. I also enjoy resistance/ weight training, cooking, hiking, and being on the water in any form (kayak, paddle board, boat, swimming).
My philosophy in nutrition goes far beyond the food you put into your body. We want to understand how food affects you, how it makes you feel, and what is does for you. Nutrition is all about supporting the complex systems that make up your body and listening to what your body needs so you can take on all that you ask your body to achieve.
So, let's fuel your body so you can LEVEL UP your performance in sport and your daily life!

Fighting Inflammation as an Athlete
Did you know that the foods you eat can impact inflammation and injury? For athletes, intense exercise triggers the release of free radicals which may lead to cell damage and loss of muscle function causing an inflammation response in the body which can present as redness, swelling, and pain. This is known as exercise-induced inflammation.
These inflammation responses are normal in the body but can impact recovery time and potential injuries. Inflammation may also cause fatigue, soreness, limited muscle growth, muscle loss, and even an increased risk of chronic diseases which all can impact performance and overall health. Athletes need to incorporate anti-inflammatory foods as a way to help prevent prolonged inflammation in an attempt to balance exercise-induced inflammation with intense physical activity.
Incorporating foods high in antioxidants and omega-3s help protects cells from free radicals and improves immune function. These nutrients will assist in repairing injured tissues and help recovery from intense physical activity.
A quick guide to remembering examples of anti-inflammatory foods.

Intuitive eating (IE) has gained a lot of traction recently and for good reason! You’ve probably seen or heard people talk about it, but what exactly does IE mean and how might it look different for athletes? Let’s get into it!
Intuitive eating is not a diet, but rather an eating framework based around self-care, intuition, and emotion. It has nothing to do with weight loss or dieting and everything to do with honoring our physical and mental health by listening to our bodies. It was originally created by two dietitians, Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, and is rooted in 10 main principles:

We are often asked about snacks by our athletes - especially snacks on the go! Whether it be for travel, hiking, or snacks away from home due to a busy schedule, it is essential to plan ahead. Planning your snacks ahead of time will help prepare you to stay fueled and fight off hunger.
The snack possibilities are endless - depending on your travel and/or activities planned. Your snack combinations may look a little different for travel by plane, car ride, or a long hike on foot. When planning, it is important to create a balanced snack that keeps you energized and satisfied by pairing a protein + fat + carbohydrate (whole grain, fruits and/or veggies).
These nutrients are important to include in your snack because:

Training Block was created with a mission to support and empower runners, in order to elevate our sport. We do so by giving runners access to a network of local sport performance providers, who provide runners with the care they need from coaching, physical therapy, massage, strength training, and more. We also give providers an easy way to connect with each other and share articles, videos, and other resources that benefit runners and providers alike. For every service booked through Training Block, we donate 10% of our revenues to Training Block’s Elite Athlete Fund, which sponsors elite runners who do not have professional contracts and need financial support for racing at their highest level.
