ABOUT CHRIS
I was in the back seat of our Toyota Siena at 11 years old, when my mother was lecturing me about the importance of getting good grades and how someday it might help pay for college. I retorted by informing her that she and my father didn’t have to worry about saving for college because I was going to get a full ride for sport. To be honest, I don’t think I even knew exactly what that meant; all I knew was the best in the country got them so thats what I wanted to be. My mother, with her brutal sense of realism and honesty (a trait I have since inherited) burst out into laughter. She explained how rare that is and how that will likely not happen for me. Much to my mothers surprise six years later I was signing a national letter of intent to run at Villanova University. Many years of playing every sport under the sun, a lot of hard work, talent, plus a bit of luck brought me to Villanova’s campus as one of the top mid distance recruits in the country. Just like when I was 11, I had big hopes and dreams for my running career, as did all of those around me.
Unfortunately, calling my college career a “bumpy road” would be a polite way to describe my tenure in the outskirts of Philly. The ins and outs of what went wrong are beyond the scope of this write up, but whats more important is what came of them. Despite the turmoil and heartbreak over those five years, my college experience gave me the best lesson a coach can ever be taught: Progress is not linear.
I went from being the top recruit in the country out of high school to DNF-ing most of my final collegiate races. Working out of that hole to race again gave me pretty keen insight on the full spectrum of the sport. That drive to ‘figure everything out’ in my own running career has led me to spend the last 7 years of my life figuring out how to get others to run as fast as they possibly can all while not forgetting how difficult this sport is (with a bit of sarcasm along the way).

Coach Fitz will get you FIT.
If you want to get to (or back to) the next level without sacrificing joy, Chris Fitz is your guy. Coach Fitz’ training plans are methodical and tailored to fit my needs. I’ve never felt so simultaneously fit and sharp. Having run through high school and college, I know how it feels to be on the brink of injury all the time. Fitz carefully builds volume while keeping you sharp along the way. It can be overwhelming to balance running goals with the realities of a corporate job, full social calendar, etc. Fitz not only acknowledges those realities, but uses them to inform your training plan. I truly couldn’t recommend him more highly.May 08 2023

Training Block was created with a mission to support and empower runners, in order to elevate our sport. We do so by giving runners access to a network of local sport performance providers, who provide runners with the care they need from coaching, physical therapy, massage, strength training, and more. We also give providers an easy way to connect with each other and share articles, videos, and other resources that benefit runners and providers alike. For every service booked through Training Block, we donate 10% of our revenues to Training Block’s Elite Athlete Fund, which sponsors elite runners who do not have professional contracts and need financial support for racing at their highest level.
