Hi, I’m Kelly Lutz aka Coaching Klutz!
I’m a certified running/ultra running coach and certified strength and conditioning specialist with a passion for helping women, trans, and non-binary folks train sustainably so they can enjoy running while dreaming big and pushing their limits.
In 2009, I decided to take the leap and sign up for my first half marathon. I had played sports all through my childhood and had run a couple fun 5Ks, but a half marathon seemed so BADASS. I trained with a generic plan and got injured within my first month (don’t worry – I started training far enough in advance to run and complete my race!). I fell in love and ran another half marathon 6 months later.
After those races, I walked on the D1 cross country team at my college and vastly improved my running with the help of my coach and our personal trainer. This is when I first saw the value in working with a coach for running. Fast forward to now, I’ve run multiple 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, and 50Ks and have become a United Endurance Sports Coaching Academy Certified Running and Ultrarunning Coach and NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, among other certifications
My favorite distance to coach is the 50k, especially an athlete's first 50k, however what matters most to me in the athletes that I coach is how we get along. Coaching doesn't work without open communication and trust between athlete and coach.

I've compiled this playlist of some of my favorite dynamic movements for you to choose from for your warm up. I usually try to do 3-5 exercises for 5-10 minutes total before my runs. Keep it simple!

Phenomenal Coach
I've been working with Kelly for several months as I train for my first trail marathon. She has been so easy to work with from the start. I was overwhelmed at coming up with a training plan for a marathon because there are so many articles on the subject. Kelly has done a great job of helping me increase my strength, endurance and cardiovascular fitness each week with my training plan. She has put in effort to personalize my plan (incorporated cross-training with other activities that I enjoy) and is able to adjust workouts easily if needed. She responds quickly and does a great job of checking in with me. I provide an update weekly with how training is going and she has given helpful feedback consistently. It is clear she is very knowledgeable and I value her expertise. I achieved a personal record in my recent half marathon and feel that Kelly was a huge part in making that happen. I've been working with Kelly for over a year and she has helped me grow so much as a runner! She coached me for 2 ultramarathons and to PRs for my 5k and half marathon times. One thing that I love about working with Kelly is that she makes training approachable and sustainable for each individual athlete. Kelly also has a Slack channel for her athletes so you have a community of other runners to chat with about all things running--such a fun perk. Training Block was created with a mission to support and empower runners, in order to elevate our sport. We do so by giving runners access to a network of local sport performance providers, who provide runners with the care they need from coaching, physical therapy, massage, strength training, and more. We also give providers an easy way to connect with each other and share articles, videos, and other resources that benefit runners and providers alike. For every service booked through Training Block, we donate 10% of our revenues to Training Block’s Elite Athlete Fund, which sponsors elite runners who do not have professional contracts and need financial support for racing at their highest level.
